Finding Joy in The Face of Change: A Review of Sun by Jehnniel

In reviewing music, there’s no right or wrong. It will always be what’s unique and whether it’s going to stand out among the rest. But today, I was humbled by Jehnniel and her newest track, “Sun.” Jehnniel is a UK-based Filipino artist. Her track, “Sun” was released last December 12, 2024, and it’s still making waves to this day. Join me as I talk about “Sun” and why simple is better.

The song kicks off with a positive-sounding melodic keyboard progression that goes hand in hand with the title itself. To be honest, I never thought of anything negative about the word “Sun.”

In a nutshell, the track talks about finding joy and resilience in the face of change and challenges. Phrases like /Don’t cry, everything’s all right, just a cycle of life; well, everything’s changing/ stand tall, keep your head up high when everything’s gone wrong, and you never waste it/ hit deep because of their simplicity and rawness.

In my honest opinion, “Sun” is meant to be simple. No complicated chord changes, key changes, or anything that can be a pivotal aspect of the song. The lyrics themselves are the most important aspect of this track.

I understand that in today’s music, every song needs to have that “uniqueness” even if it’s just a 3- to 5-minute track, but Jehnniel reminded us that even in simplicity, lyrics will always be king.

This track is absolutely worth a listen, and we’re excited to hear more from this rising artist. Show her some love by following her on social media and streaming “Sun” today!
