Mandy Shadow’s “Round The Corner” Speaks Volumes

Despite the melancholia present throughout the song, there is also light seeping through the cracks, and undertones of acceptance. Mandy Shadow has managed to say everything that needed to be said in a matter of three minutes.

Upon really understanding what it truly means to be “still in love ‘round the corner”, it seems as though it’s not just about yearning for someone who’s left their life; it’s about falling for someone you have a deep connection with. Within the verses, Shadow has narrated a handful of instances that implicate how close and familiar the person in question is.

Not only is it about being in love with someone close, it’s also about noting that it’s not going to end well that way. It’s about running from a love you know is forbidden, because it would hypothetically ruin what you already have with that person. With that, the overall vibe is bittersweet all throughout, the sad acknowledgement of love that cannot be.

The track also features a stagnant, mellow piano, as well as subtle guitar. The chorus has a nostalgic feel to it, with its old-fashioned melody and production. In terms of getting a clear message across, “Round The Corner” has efficiently done so.
