A Step Out of The Bustling and The Busy: An EP Review of Hayden Everett’s I Miss The Sky EP

There are only a few days left and we will already say goodbye to April. It seems like time just flew by in front of us. Most people for sure wish for time to slow down, for everyone to at least have a breather. Lucky for you, because if you’re looking for new music to accompany you while you’re having downtime and do your musings about what happened in the past month, Hayden Everett has something in store for you!

Released today, April 26, 2024, Everett birthed an EP about living life fully and enjoying the moment in the form of I Miss The Sky. The California artist prepared six songs for this EP. First on the list is See You Soon, doubling as the EP’s lead single. See You Soon is an anthem fit for missing someone that you just want to see them immediately no matter what, how, and when. “Can I see you soon, Can I break my stupid rules?” emphasized the degree of the heaviness of the lyrics implied.

Next on the line is my personal favorite from the EP entitled Coma. With its mild and soothing instrumentals, mixed with its heart-wrenching lyrics, it instantly captivated my soul. In my first round of listening to it, it felt like my soul was levitating in another dimension. Coma uses interweaved phrases that help you imagine a picture in your mind just by listening to it. It was the second shortest song in the EP, yet it feels the most soulful.

Seize The Sun is the third song from the EP. It incorporates folk elements throughout the song mixed with the prominent guitar instrumental. Everett said he wrote this song as an anthem when you want to take a break from the world and take a walk. The song’s meaning literally means to enjoy the sun in your break times.

For the EP’s fourth track is Everett’s beautiful rendition of Jet Plane. Jet Plane is originally by John Denver, plated in a mellow folk sound. Everett’s take on Jet Plane, however, takes the more mellow pop version of the song. It was recorded, according to Everett’s statement from his previous interview, in Mammoth Lakes in California.

7th Street is the album’s fifth track which also serves as the album’s interlude. It was just a minute and sixteen seconds long instrumental, but the track seemed to talk to the listener’s soul. It was soothing, more like relaxing, like a refreshment for one’s tired mind and soul, perfect for Everett’s purpose for this EP. The last track, but definitely not the least, is For Winter. With its enticing piano instrumental, the line “I promise, we’re okay, okay? Okay.” suddenly has so many meanings. A perfect ender for this very wonderful EP.

May Hayden Everett’s I Miss The Sky remind you to take a breather from this bustling and busy society and push you to enjoy the simple things, much like the nature around us.

If you’re in the mood to relax, be sure to check out the EP on your preferred streaming platforms! You might also want to follow the artist in his social media platform accounts!
