A QUINQUENNIAL MILESTONE: JANEY TEARJERKY CELEBRATES THEIR 5TH ANNIVERSARY THROUGH THEIR MEMORABLE GIG “CINCO”

A month has passed, but we’re still not over Janey Tearjerky’s Cinco gig. Let us look back on what had happened on that memorable day!

On one fine day, the 8th of June, at the entrance of a busy mall that is Ayala Mall Circuit Makati, a party is brewing inside one of the most sought-after gig places in the Metro: Social House Makati. Inside, we witnessed one of the most memorable gigs we had attended in our lifetime: Janey Tearjerky’s 5th birthday!

The gig started at 8:30-ish in the evening. Opening the night with his romantic and acoustic performance is Jayson Caling. The second band to grace the stage was Aneka, who performed great covers and originals. Following these two are Bed Potato, ENJOINTPH, and Yellow Pad, bands who also shared their own songs and renditions of song covers. These bands truly energized and prepped the crowd before our main star for that night.

Finally, the time has come for our main event, Janey Tearjerky. Their presence alone was enough to liven the crowd once they positioned themselves onstage. On brand with their band’s image, they opened their set with an unreleased song entitled Tapos Na Tayo. To fuel the fire of hurting and senti-ing, they also performed their song Trauma. This song elevated the melancholic atmosphere, yet the more it hurts, the more the crowd hypes up, ironically. The third song they performed was another unreleased song entitled Tadhana. Their soulful performance makes me anticipate the official release of this song more. In a jollier vibe, the band performed their rendition of a song from the Nation’s Girl Group, BINI, which is Salamin, Salamin. They also asked selected female audiences to join them onstage to dance along to the song. It was a fun performance to watch! Switching to a more angsty and savage mood, they played their hit Empacho. The crowd, hyped by the song’s lyrics, vibed and sang along with Janey Tearjerky, making it a sight to see and remember. The band ended their set with their songs Sikreto and Diyan Ka Magaling, leaving the audience electrified and hyped. Ironic to their fanbase’s name, Team Iyakin is indeed not sad, but happy, that night.

After Janey Tearjerky’s performance, three bands then graced the Social House stage ― Moongrey, Hawaiian Combo Meal, and Nevertheless to close the show. Although they performed last, these bands still gave their all and energized the crowd once again. They recharged the dimming energy, which sometimes occurs due to the time of night.

Because this is a birthday party for the one and only Janey Tearjerky, it wouldn’t be complete without the gift-giving and the loot! In between each of the band’s sets, Indielible Ink, the show’s organizer and producer, held a small giveaway consisting of Janey Tearjerky’s merch and others from sponsors like Frshly Rotten and Doodletoonz.

Janey Tearjerky’s 5th birthday bash was one hell of a show. It will for sure be part of my memory lane that I will always choose to remember. Here’s to Janey Tearjerky’s more successful years in the industry.
