A Trip Down Memory Lane: House of Mirrors by Pete Price

House of Mirrors is a track from Pete Price’s sophomore album, Pictures in Time. Let’s do a deep dive on this track and read why House of Mirrors is and will be a timeless classic.

The track started with this old soul vibe mainly because of the main progression. That twangy guitar lick accompanied by that easy-sounding drum progression created this yacht rock sound. I can imagine myself listening to this track on repeat on an easy Sunday morning with a cup of coffee in my hand looking at the kids playing in the garden.

But do not be fooled by that easy listening feel of the whole track. From a lyrical perspective, the song’s theme talks about the character’s inner struggles. As the song progresses, the character is even questioning himself. “The jailer holds the key, the jailer could be me” That phrase of the song alone speaks volumes.

Overall, Pete Price brought me back to the days of listening to England Dan & John Ford Coley and Ambrosia just to name a few. The tropes and the overall feel of the track are just perfect. If I can be honest, The song, House of Mirrors is not trying to compete with the music of today. The track alone has its own audience and I’m sure that it will eventually reach its people.
