A CALLOUT TO THE PATRIARCHY: MANI KONTADOR’S TT TRACK REVIEW

A battle fought for most of our lifetimes, Patriarchy has been an issue ever since the start of time. It was a pervasive issue throughout history, and its remnants are still visible today. We’ve been progressing towards a better and equal society but traces of it are still evident everywhere up until now.

This is what Mani Kontador chooses to focus on in their latest release. The Laguna, Philippines-based band seeks to critique this very alarming power structure and practice. Released last August 26, 2024, TT (pronounced as Double T) serves as a sarcastic and a satire call-out to all the men, and the things they do in the daily. It highlights the absurdities and injustices that persist in a society centered around men and their power over anyone.

TT delves into the punk rock side of instrumentals, its heavy-hitting notes for sure will satisfy your ear especially if you’re in the mood to listen to the heavier side of music. TT serves all these while giving us comedic yet impactful, hard-hitting, and legitimate lyrics about the crisis in our world nowadays. It is a deep and real-life take on the crisis that toxic men and masculinity bear. The single’s fusion of humor and dead-serious critique and commentary is what makes it charming and serves as a powerful tool to challenge and provoke thought.

This track has an ambitious goal, but if heard by many, it would be really helpful towards our progression in our goal in terms of gender equality and diminishing toxic masculinity in this society. This song serves as a bold statement against the status quo and also serves as a battle cry to continue our progress as a society toward true and legitimate equality.

It was a little bit different compared to their first EP entitled Nakain Ng Social Media, which was released last 2021 in the sense that they took a bolder approach towards their commentary yet still embedded their signature humor and sound. Both records are great on their own and are both worth our time.
