TRAVERSING THROUGH THE WHIRLWIND OF A HEARTBREAK WITH D2’S NEW ALBUM “LOVERS END”

Love is what makes the world keep turning. This is what most people believe in and hold dear in their hearts. If this is the case, where did heartbreak and heartbroken people go in a world full of romance and romantics?

A safe space is created for pragmatists and heartbroken people alike in D2’s new album Lovers End. Released last April 26, 2024, Lovers End gives us 10 songs to accompany us in our post-heartbreak journey. With each track serving as a chapter in the narrative, D2 paints a perfect story of post-breakup emotions, offering listeners a raw and authentic portrayal of the human experience. From the initial sting of farewell to the acceptance and healing, Lovers End clearly shows the various stages of heartache with profound depth and honesty through catchy melodies and relatable lyrics. Lovers End as an album is able to show D2’s ability in creating music and his storytelling techniques. Whether you’re navigating your own heartache, seeking in the beauty of shared experience, or just searching for a new catchy tune “Lovers End” offers an array of sounds that anyone could find something they enjoy.

The first song that will accompany you on this journey is Fuck You Anyways. This song offers you comfort and space to release your rage and frustrations due to your recent breakup. Featuring the artist Farr Out, this song is an angsty lullaby for the fresh wound that your heart gained in the form of a pop-punk-ish vibe. It will also validate your begging that we all know you are doing to your past partner. Let them go! That’s the only way to start this journey of healing.

Rekindle is the second ally that will guide you in this journey. It will cradle you in its arms and tell you that it is okay to miss your ex-partner while trying to heal yourself. This song reminisces about your past, but revisiting those events will surely help you heal faster, correct? This song also shows how genuine one can be when loving, even if it will make one look like a martyr.

This third song is the song that fits when it felt like everyone turned their backs on you just because of what happened in your relationship, and this song is entitled Empty Promises. It also assessed all the wrongs that your partner had done to you in the past. All of the unsaid feelings poured through this song.

Presented in a heavier arrangement, In My Grave tells the story of feeling like shit when you just left a relationship. It used the metaphor of digging a grave in presenting a dying relationship. The song also questions the authenticity of the love that their partner gave, which is becoming more and more unclear because of the partner’s actions towards the end of the relationship.

Dressed in an acoustic ensemble, so, it’s over is a song that puts an end to the relationship. It is kind of ironic how it talks about the end while being in the middle of the tracklist. However, this might also signify a new beginning after getting out of a toxic relationship. This song serves as the album’s transition from the rage phase to the healing phase.

Second Place is the sixth song in the album. As the song that jumpstarts the healing and dating stage, it still falls into the sadder category of songs in the album. The song gave us a peek at what a failed courtship looks like, of being just an option, but never the first choice. Despite giving your best, it doesn’t guarantee a slot in the person’s heart.

The album’s seventh song is entitled Something in the Orange. Its lyricism embodies the phase in someone’s healing phase wherein they just want to go back to their past relationship because that’s where they feel comfortable, that became their norm already to the point that they are seeing them in things hidden in the mundane just like sunsets and sunrises.
And for the album’s eighth song comes Broken Lover. It’s a song that justifies one’s brokenness ― which is already affecting the people surrounding them ― and gives them the free pass because they are “heartbroken”. It gives the picture of the unhealthy side of coping: being selfish and unaware of what one’s causing to other people.

The second to the last song of the roster is Leap of Faith. It was a hopeful song with a happier melody that let you borrow the courage to fall in love again. It felt like the persona in the song was directly talking to the listener, telling us that no matter how wounded we were from our last relationship, love is still worth taking a risk, and that there is a person that would make you want to do just that.

Last, but wasn’t least, is More Than Just Tonight. Its first few melodies sounded like a song straight out of a YA movie. It is the song where the persona finally asks its muse to trust them and believe in love again. They also promised their muse that they would protect and love them, more than they deserved.

This movie-like album is now available to listen to on Spotify! For more of D2’s music, make sure to give them a follow on their social media accounts.
