The Art of Love and Unloving in Nextdoordown’s New EP Who?

In a world where you can stay or you can go, what path will you choose? Nextdoordown’s EP Who? might help you out with that.

Love ― and life, in general ― is a roller coaster ride. We must go through the ups and downs of it to live a balanced and content life. We cannot stay only at the top, or only at the bottom. To attain true human experiences, we must face success and crisis simultaneously.

Who? is an EP released by Nextdoordown ― an artist based in Florida; all songs produced, recorded, and mixed in their cozy little bedroom ― that shows and tells the concepts of the ups and downs of a rollercoaster ride in a romantic relationship one has with a partner. The EP started with an emotional instrumental entitled Let It Go. This first track will surely made you put you in a mood to understand the whole EP. With its piano and melancholic melody, it made you brace yourself for what’s going to appear next in the queue.

The second track, entitled Worth talks about how the guy in the relationship cannot reciprocate the feelings of the girl who wants him. It is straightforward and its lyrics repetitive, making sure that the woman understands the persona’s point. It is also emphasized that no matter what the girl will do, he’ll never, ever feel the same.

Some More is the EP’s third track and the vibe that the lyrics give is that both of the receiving ends in the relationship got tired and settled for the bare minimum. They just stayed for the sake of staying and the memories. This song also symbolizes how people can get burnt out in a relationship and start to lose interest.

Jumping into the fourth track entitled Some Less, which I assume is the sequel to Some More, talks about the blurring of love and hate in the existing relationship, where both of them can’t even give the bare minimum of attraction to each other anymore.

The fifth track is the lead single, Attached. This song is about getting into a relationship and getting more attached to the person over time, but also goes over the flaws of the relationship, myself, and her. It’s a two-part song, the second part goes into how the persona and their muse complement each other well and that they’ll always going to be there for her.

Last, but certainly not least, the conclusion of this EP comes Okay, a two-minute, 38-second play. In my perspective, Okay is about how other people comment on a couple’s falling relationship and how the persona is trying to fix the broken relationship.
