Spoken From Experience: Thera’s “I Wish I Called” Album Review

At only seventeen, Thera already possesses an understanding of her exact purpose as to why she’s releasing music: to express herself and provide support to those people who may be experiencing the same thing she has once experienced. She hopes, as an artist, that her listeners can find a sense of comfort and outlet through the lyrics of her songs. Hailing from the Czech Republic, Thera has a strong sense of identity and an unwavering commitment to her craft. Her clear vision, combined with an incredible work ethic, makes her a rising star and a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. Some of her music influences are Madison Beer, SZA, Tate McRae, and Rihanna, as well as American music in general resulting from her numerous trips there in recent years.

In 2021, Thera recorded her first album called I Wish I Called with the help of producer Martin Prikryl, which includes collaborations with Matej Moravek and Matej Belko. She was then discovered by the SOUNDS INC management team in early 2024 and officially gave birth to the album for it to be streamed worldwide. With this, Thera is now ready to share her music with as many people who are willing to take a little time to listen to her works.

I Wish I Called is an album containing songs from multitudes of genres ranging from pop-rock to ballads to R&B. The album opened strong with an instrumental entitled ringing…. This opener sets the mood and kind of spoils the listener about how the album will go from track to track. It then transitioned to fate, the angsty-sounding second track that disses someone who hurt the persona in some way, telling them straight up that no matter how little they made them feel, they will never become like them. erase comes next immediately with the persona still talking to the same people. It starts as though the persona is concerned, yet revealed in the chorus that they wish the same discomfort they inflicted on the persona to get back at them. would you? is the album’s third track, talking about betrayal from a close friend the persona trusted the most. The persona is asking her questions to let her know how they felt when the situation happened.

DLTTI comes next, talking about how toxic the realm of the internet is. Of how accepting it is to an individual if they follow the trends and standards, and how rude it is overall if you choose to rebel against what it wants. YOUTH talks about the horror encapsulated in one’s specific time in their younger years and how it will be etched throughout one’s lifetime. It is not an excuse if people are young, they always mean what they do, even if it causes other people’s trauma. little favor sounded like a conscience talking to the perpetrator. It is still about the same friend that betrayed the persona. It also talks about how they have the guts to play the victim in a situation they themselves created. rain still carries the same emotional instrumentals that the former songs also possess. This song talks about the victim reflecting on what happened to them and recounting all of the events that led to the situation, even trying to blame themselves while watching the rain outside their room. stain, the general public’s favorite in the album, amassing 100,000+ streams on Spotify alone, is an emotional song about confronting the persona’s perpetrator. This song is brave, raw, and unapologetic in speaking its truth. I understand the appeal of this song to the listeners. guardian angel queues next, it sounds like the calm after the storm. Thera talks about having someone to hold onto with this song. After all the hurt that the themes in the past songs carry, this one will soothe the burns and heal you internally, too. The guardian angel in the songs deafens all the noise surrounding the persona, and just hearing that through the song also feels like having a safe space of your own. dying tone serves as the album’s ender. Just like how ringing… opens the album, this song is mostly on the instrumental side, mixed with a monologue spoken through a phone line. This serves as a conclusion to the pain and abuse that a person has gone through.

Thera is an amazing musician and songwriter and this album is proof of it. You may listen to this album across different music platforms. If you want to wait for Thera’s new releases, follow her on the music streaming sites and on her social media accounts, too.
