Listening to this new single, Running Out of Time, it’s obvious Nyki Lindsay King has gone through a lot. What I think is admirable about this song, and about Nyki, is his decision to use his art to not only express himself, but also to use his lyrical prowess and musicianship to deliver a call to action.
This song reminds us that we all make mistakes, but that we’re human. That we are mortal. And that instead of holding on to animosity and hatred, we should work to resolve our conflicts, and perhaps to reconcile our pasts, among ourselves.
It’s a song that strikes me as much of a self-reflection as a societal critique. Nyki’s heavy music and emotional vocals really seem to be calling out, to be pleading, for people to not only recognize and work toward the betterment of harsh societal issues, but also to look to Nyki as an example of how to address more personal issues. That is, to look at forgiveness and compassion as replacements for hatred and spite.
If you’re already a fan of Christian rock, this song should be right up your alley. But even if you’re not, I’d highly recommend checking out Nyki Lindsay King’s work on Spotify. I think he is an artist with a message worth hearing, and this new single is a beautiful example of it.
