As teenagers, we seek to shape our identity by exploring hobbies around us, may it be art, music, literature, or sports, for this is crucial in our growth during these formative years of our lives. This is fundamental in our growth as an individual both in the present and in the near future. This is what 14-year-old Robyn, more commonly known as Robyn M or Robyn M Music, indulges herself in exploring while also cementing her name in the local music scene here in the Philippines.
Robyn is just your typical teenager: curious, creative, and eager to explore the world. Other than doing music and writing her songs, she is also a huge bookworm, an advantage to her music career because she uses her music as an avenue for her to tell stories. Since February 2024, she already released 5 songs as of writing this article, to which we will talk more about in a little while. As a product of her craft, she already toured some of the most famous spots for live music around Metro Manila! She already set foot and shared her craft in the following venues: the famous 70’s Bistro in Quezon City, 19 East located in Muntinlupa, Saguijo in Makati, and Red Rhino situated in Mandaluyong.
She is blessed to have a supportive family rallying behind her, which is instrumental in her musical journey. Robyn’s origins in music making, just like most of the rising stars in the roster today, started when the pandemic hit. Her father, once part of the music scene years ago, influenced the family to play music together and they started a family band. They turned their family room into a makeshift rehearsal studio. We all know how hard it was to cope during those trying times, and for their music-oriented family, they bonded over learning cover songs and posting them on the music and video streaming platform YouTube to get by through those trying times. Soon after, Robyn then decided to write her own songs and music. Because of this, her family decided to invest in recording equipment which helped bring Robyn’s music to life. Her family now acts as her band as well. Dad on guitars, Mom on drums or bass, and her 10-year-old brother on bass or drums. Talk about a supportive family!
As mentioned in the former part of this article, Robyn M has already 5 songs available to listen to in various music streaming platforms, 3 of which were released before she even turned 14! These songs are entitled Summertime, Girl From The Sun, Time Passed, Don’t Cry, and Woke Up Alive, all of which were released in a single format. Various themes were also present in the collection of songs that Robyn M released. Summertime, the first single she ever released, is a song that echoes the joys and melancholy of watching those we hold dearest to us enter and exit our lives, much like the changing of seasons. Don’t You Cry, on the other hand, is about her experiences as a competitive gymnast for 7 years. Girl From The Sun is about a guy who likes a girl who’s out of reach. Her newest single, I Woke Up Alive, is about the struggles that life gives you that make you work harder and more motivated. Last but not the least is Time Passed. This song is about how we should be thankful for the moments we share with the people we love. At the tender age of 14, her deep and heartfelt lyrics are well beyond her years.
Robyn M is about to release 2 more singles this September and October, cementing her name in the industry little by little, and she’s here to stay. Remember her name because she might be the next big star in the game.
