Is CAP THA WISEGUY PERFECTLY CAPABLE?: Album Review

CAP THA WISEGUY has just released his latest LP, PERFECTLY CAPABLE. Join me as I break down the LP and explain why CAP THA WISEGUY has a clear future in the hip-hop scene.

Let’s start with the first track of the album, “L.E.G.E.N.D.” This is a great album opener because of the smooth flow and cadence. The track talks about being resilient in the face of adversity and being authentically true to oneself. “Never forget what makes you, you” is a lyric from the track that drives home the main point of the song.

The sample used in the track “I Still Love H.E.R.” catches anyone’s attention immediately. It’s unconventional but a great hook to keep the listeners engaged. The arrangement of the track resembles that old-school hip-hop vibe. It speaks of sweet and reminiscent love. I’m already invested in the verses; however, I feel like the chorus hook needs a bit more work. It’s not as smooth and lyrically empowering as the verses.

“On My Own” is a track created to challenge anyone to continue on their path even if others will never understand the struggle and grind of turning rocks into gems. I specifically like the beat and the arrangement of this track because of its simplicity. There aren’t a lot of things happening in the background, allowing the lyrics and rapping to shine more.

I like the acapella sample on the track “Figure It Out As I Go.” It goes hand in hand with CAP THA WISEGUY’s flow. This is by far the most powerful track on the LP because of the flow and the beat. It makes your head bop. The rhythm of CAP THA WISEGUY’s rapping style on this track is fire. This track is a banger! The chorus hook on this track is catchy to the point that it keeps repeating in my head.

I’m not sure if it’s me or if there was a tempo change in the intro to “Poser Petes.” The track started with a plucking guitar sample, then when the beat came in, it became faster, contradicting the tempo of the sample. The sample was adjusted as well for the whole duration of the song. To be honest, the tempo change and the sample adjustment hooked me into listening to the track a few more times because it was planned all along! Huge props to E-LOW and CAP THA WISEGUY for that genius move!

“Aiyyo Fuck ‘Em” is another great single contender for this LP because of CAP THA WISEGUY’s lyrical flow and rhythm. True to its message, you don’t want to mess with CAP THA WISEGUY’s patience. By this track, you can already hear CAP THA WISEGUY’s strength. CAP THA WISEGUY excels more in fast-paced tracks. It’s clear, it has better rhythm, and to be perfectly honest, it suits him best.

The track “Can I Get Away?” pairs perfectly with “Free Your Mind.” It’s a great concept that builds up to the main theme of “Free Your Mind.” This track is the perfect lead single for the LP because of its flow and production. The production and arrangement of this track are on another level.
