With a concept that is sure to pull a melodramatic audience right in, Lawrence Timonidescribes this song as ‘imposter syndrome in summer groove’ which is witty yet accurate in itself. It’s another indie/alternative gem that may remind listeners of beloved acts like Tame Impala, Arctic Monkeys… the list goes on.
But, despite those influences, there’s something about the vocals and overall aura that makes Timoni’s songs as his, and only his. The quality of the instruments, as well as the production, is spot on; it’s like listening to something from a radio playlist curated just for you. The flow of it all is seamless, making what is hard and awkward (for the most part) to talk about comprehensible and even dance-able in the first listen.
The interludes and the bridge deserves to be praised separately, as it addresses the mere fact of being here despite it all, as well as an expression of gratitude in a whimsical, rhyming fashion. “No diploma in confidence / Just sarcasm and common sense” inflicts a definite chuckle for its cleverness.
“Good Enough (Still I Try)” is everything you could ever want in a catchy, self-deprecating song, and you should listen to it right now. More than just music, it acts like that one friend that you relate with in everything; maybe it’ll be there for you more than actual ones.
