“Glasses” by wave.painters: A Track Review

You want rock? Here’s a good one! From the moment the opening guitar riffs went off for this track, I knew for a fact that “Glasses” is fire! This sound will remind you of your youth (tita/tito things!) as wave.painters, a rising Filipino rock band, will take you on an emotional journey as they lay their emotions bare through this track while channeling the spirit of their influences like Blink-182, My Chemical Romance, and Simple Plan.

As the story goes, this track was written by their band member, Bry. This track was written as a way to cope with his recent heartbreak because of his crush. Glasses are absolutely packed! One listen, and you will already feel the sincerity of the artist towards their feelings. Not only does it sound great because of its crunchy guitar riffs, pounding drums, and clear and crisp vocals, but this track has successfully captured the mixed feelings of angst and longing for someone.

This song is about getting stuck and being in doubt—this about rekindled feelings and the confusion that goes along with it. The lyrics are well thought out! The band has smartly used metaphors like “deep in molasses” to eventually capture the idea of getting stuck in spirals of reawakened feelings and memories. The line “You’re a rare jewel” on the other hand, depicts that the subject of the artist’s affection is someone who is actually irreplaceable and precious, which only enforces the artist’s emotional confusion and longing.

Verdict? I’m definitely adding this to my playlist! This track is honest and sincere. Glasses captures the fragile nature of one’s emotion, and the band has successfully delivered that to a song. This track is a promising debut from this rising artist. wave.painters has showcased their potential to become something major in the punk rock scene of Filipino music.

With this type of quality lyrics, nostalgic and familiar sound, and unquestionable ability to capture emotional depth, Glasses and wave.painters will definitely reach heights!
