Get back in your element with Maijah’s Sinking/Floating made for the iconic bedrot baddies

You will never catch Maijah lacking. The moment her songs start to play, it immediately gets the spotlight and she’s here to do it again and again. And this time, she’s back in her element with cinematic and sleek pop statements with her newest EP Sinking/Floating.

Hailing from LA, Maijah mastered the art of making music to fulfill your main character agenda. With the release of Sinking/Floating, she brings manifestation and affirmation forward all while dissecting that vulnerability in two tracks.

Sinking starts off spiraling, like being caught under an endless cycle of burnout and exhaustion. No exact words can describe the way it brings movement to your body and catches you off-guard with its spot-on lyrics. This song is built on contrast – written from being trapped in anxiety at your lowest point, yet swept by a glittery alt-pop production for head nods and bops. Every word is intentional, straying from the usual formula of pop tracks that is underwhelming and repetitive.

It captures the exact feeling of responsibilities piling up, and fear of missing every single thing because deep down it all matters. Yet the only thing that is attainable at the moment is doom scrolling in bed with the tenth coffee or matcha of the day for that instant dopamine spike. Sinking is all the quick fixes, the bed rots, and all the destructive habits that come from depression, ADHD, and declining mental health.

The groundwork laid out in Sinking is quickly flipped by Floating, and the way it transitions from one to another is so seamless that you’ll barely notice a shift happening. The production is glossy and celestial, waving with sass and killer hooks that are magnetic enough to draw you in and make you stay.

Floating explicitly echoes that exact feeling of making the most out of days when the spark comes back after that never-ending feeling of stagnancy. It’s feeling yourself, doing your best, spreading your wings again, knowing all too well it’ll be inevitably gone again. It’s a hype song for baddies coming right up after that series of bed rot activities.

The magic of Sinking/Floating lies in Maijah’s ability to write deep-rooted and compelling lyrics while balancing out that production quality. This project’s duality is so iconic like the artist she is. Imagine Lana del Rey in neon green, singing a Charli XCX-esque track – having that graceful and poetic lyricism while ringing with glossy and celestial arrangements for your 2AM after-cry selfie.

Maijah is definitely out here to cement her place in the scene. With the release of Sinking/Floating, there’s no doubt she’ll be topping and dominating the charts any time soon.
