Gatecloser’s “Dance of Shadows” Is A Force To Be Reckoned With

If music is a means of release, a way of expression, then “Dance of Shadows” is a personal, intricate example of turning inner turmoil into art. Not only does this song have meaningful intentions, but also a well put instrumental to top it off.

Gatecloser has narrated what seems to be a thought process of an individual fighting inner demons, in the midst of decision. With the ending line being “Life, it’s just a Dance of Shadows”, shadows can be interpreted as the daily phenomenon people experience left and right, or in other words, people’s shadows you come across while walking through an incredibly long hallway.

The song features questions such as “should I be happy?” and “should I be damned?”, an evaluation of what the narrator has in their life, and what they’ve had to lose throughout its demands. It is honestly a good track to analyze and make sense of; it’s a bundle of personal experience, welcoming listeners to hear their story, and just maybe they’ll share the same sentiments.

Sound-wise, the production and elements are well executed. Rock definitely suits everything about this song; great tone and harmony with each instrument, the solo, the dynamic, it’s all great. It’s got a sense of nostalgia from classic alternative rock/emo from the days of the genre’s prime.
