Released last June 9, 2024, King Khy blessed us with a blazing hot album entitled King Me. Served piping hot with thirteen solid tracks, 22 minutes won’t be enough to satisfy yourself with this new release. This album will surely be in your jam for the next few weeks.
According to King Khy, this is a collection of songs starting from 2 years ago up until today. Not knowing that these would all become a project, King Khy has strived to continuously turn his home studio quality into glass, and you hear the progression throughout this project. He has made all his own beats, engineered it, and made all of the graphics, for it. He has been self-taught in digital art, programming, and audio engineering for quite a long time and has been making his own beats since he started rapping. This man of many talents just shows how many things he can do, in and out of the music industry. His type of genius is what the industry needed indeed. Because of his heart and passion in everything that he is doing, we are given this amazing third album from the man himself.
King Me, as stated earlier, is King Khy’s third album. This album blends the elements of hip-hop, RnB, and soul into its songs for us to have a cohesive listening experience. King Khy’s versatility ― as a producer, songwriter, and singer ― shines through every track in this album. The production in this album is masterful, evident in its sick beats and melodious composition which makes way for the spotlight to be shined on to the greatness of the album’s lyrical storytelling, too. Not everyone aces this combination in producing songs and albums, but King Khy did it in his. He made his tracks unique from one another but still managed to make them cohesive and beautiful.
King Khy, in terms of his lyricism, explores a wide range of themes in his new album. He talked about his identity in some of his songs, examining who he is as an artist and an individual in this world of people trying to fit into societal standards that they tend to forget about individualism. Connected to this are the themes of success and self-discovery, too. He also criticized impossible societal expectations in the album’s songs. He also incorporated his opinion about human connections in the industry in his songs in this album. More importantly, King Khy shared his introspective insights: his self-reflection, and realizations. This is one of my favorites when artists produce songs, sharing a bit, or their whole, of themselves in their artwork.
The album will welcome you with its lead single THA KING. This song talks about King Khy’s identity as a rapper and as an artist in general, making you remember him as someone who is at the top of the game. He asserts his dominance in this song while telling the pros and cons of being on top. Champion is also one of the songs that resonated with me when I listened to it. It tells the story of one’s struggles, resilience, and self-awareness. The instrumental and lyricism for this song combined hit hard that it speaks to one’s soul when you listen to it. Going to another song from the album is What’s Competition? This song is a perfect anthem when you want to grind and reach the top of the pyramid. This song is ambitious and makes you want to work hard to soar high in whatever industry you want to pursue right now or in the near future. This song has the catchiest hooks and the most infectious beats to listen to. It reminds you that you don’t need to hate the player, but rather hate the game.
King Khy’s expertise shines through his songs in this album not just in the tracks mentioned above but also in the tracks Let Em Cook Up, Feel Like A Star, Now The Place Smells Exotic, Geek, Titus, Had To Do It, It’s King Khy, Tunnel Vision, Rally, and Hit The Buzzer. Listening to this album is a whole experience that it feels like being one of the characters in a storybook written by King Khy himself.
