On June 28th, Ellanika released her latest EP, “Quicksand,” a collection of five beautifully written and produced tracks showcasing her ability to make awesome music. This EP has masterfully captured the complexities and mysteries that revolve around love and freedom—topics that are very close to a lot of the fans—making this EP a great discovery for the crowd.
This EP opens with the track “Lumen” (a Latin word that means “light). This is honestly one of my favorite words in this dead language, mainly because it is simple yet catchy. The same adjectives can be used to describe this track. This gives off a melancholic vibe brought on by the subtle and emotional voice of Ellanika, which makes the whole track sound very dreamy. This song is relatable, too. It is about looking for ways to become free from everything that is holding a person back in their lives. The world can feel so restrictive, and this song just captures the whole idea of it.
On the other hand, “Quicksand” is a track that is something deeper. It is a song that perfectly grasps the idea of loving someone and becoming overly dependent on their presence. This song spells love in a complex and contrasting way: it is passionate yet destructive; it is sweet yet dangerous. This song depicts a love that feels like it drowns you, yet the singer hopes for some positive healing as time goes on. This vibe was specifically highlighted through the clean production and honest singing of Ellanika. It is to be highlighted that all tracks in this EP are uniquely written, showcasing the top-notch ability of Ellanika to write a compelling song that is enjoyable to listen to while evoking deep and intense emotions from the listeners.
Coming in is the instrumental track “Nocturne.” It gives off a vibe of melancholy and timelessness. This type of sound transports you through time. It is nice to listen to, yet it offers you deep sadness and a positive feeling of hope. In addition to this, this EP also features “bedroom versions” of the tracks “Quicksand” and “Lumen,” which are versions that you wouldn’t want to miss out on hearing.
Ultimately, the biggest selling point of this EP is the well-written lyrics of the songs featured and the amazing vocal skills of Ellanika. It is subtle and a type of vocal that you can feel caressing your soul. Ellanika’s voice sounded fragile, yet it had this vibe that was strong and unshakable. She echoes Billie Eilish, Odell, and Bon Iver with her tracks having a strong message and musical production making them appealing to the ears and worthy to listen to. Ellanika is definitely an artist to look out for! Her music has the potential to reach its peak given its ability to evoke powerful messages through her tracks while making her souls vulnerable to the listeners through her music. This EP is definitely a must-listen!
