Fierce is an interesting word. It conveys power and sincerity, but it also a lack of restraint. Yet, it is still the word that comes to mind while listening to Jessie Ric’s debut single, Slow Control.
With this release, Jessie Ric, a 24-year-old indie artist from Baguio City, Philippines, proves to be unafraid to unleash her spirit with her music. It’s subdued. It’s restrained. But it’s determined. She’s a bold commander, backed by undeniable rhythm and hyper-smooth bass. It’s intimate. Truly intimate. It’s an intimacy that can only come with experience. Experience from heartache. From loss. From disappointment. But from still finding comrades; from finding partners; from finding love, despite all of life’s tragedies.
Soon, Jessie’s debut EP, Self Study, will hit the streets. It’s reasonable to expect this album, which she describes as “consisting of songs about my introspective journey of growing up, self-discovery, and the inevitable redirections of my early 20s”, to convey the same cool ferocity that has been presented in this lead single.
If the rest of her music is produced as well as this song is, it will make for some of the best in the business. Don’t miss out. Follow Jessie Ric on Spotify. This EP will be one for the books.
