Blindness & Light Teases A New Album with “Mersey Bell”

Mersey Bell is Blindness & Light’s third taster from their up-and-coming second album, I Dreamt I Had Insomnia. This track is a tribute to the band’s late friend and a coming-of-age storytelling of how they’ve lived their lives.

The track starts with a magnetic new-wave alternative feel, and the bass line complements the drum pattern in the transition between the verse and the chorus. The use of a double-time drum pattern alongside a beautiful two-chord progression created this nostalgic early 2000s sound. The nostalgia alone took me back to a time when life was easy and peaceful.

In the latter part of the track, Blindness & Light decided to change the mood by creating this running feel bass drum pattern that gels well with that steady bass line. You can hear how glued the track is to its lyrics. The lyric Oh see the lights works perfectly with this heavenly sound accompanying it.

And to end the track, Blindness & Light gave us this controlled chaotic sound giving this “there is tomorrow for you and me” kind of vibe.

Mersey Bell is the perfect gateway to the band’s second album. The track creates layers and layers of colors, giving us all sorts of feel and leaving us listeners wanting more.
