Honestly, need I say more? “Back from the Dead” by a little place called Aspen captures your attention immediately with vibrant tones, with a set of vocals that represent an ice cream cone melting as seconds go by.
Cutting to the chase, this song is said to be inspired by Stephen King’s “Home Delivery”, essentially a short story about a zombie apocalypse. The fact that this is driven by the work of a renowned author yet it sounds absolutely preppy, much like for an animation or a cartoon, is outright amazing to think about.
It’s all mellowed down but still maintains that kick through the hooks and that indie-pop feel. Well, the overall feel is immaculate, to say the least. It shows that all members of this band know what they’re doing; the seamless harmonies of instrument and voice merges everything together perfectly.
“We’re underground, but no time for dying yet”, “Calling out from the underground / Back from the dead / Scream away, we don’t hear a sound” has got to be the most quick-witted chorus for a debut release. The layers of vocals almost resemble acapella groups with its potential; heck, it could probably stand on its own.
An immediate recommendation to anyone, hands down. It’s a breath of fresh air, grabbing inspiration from a neighboring work rather than pulling something out from the world yourself. I’d just be waiting for further releases from this group at this point.
