This song is definitely worth a listen. Some moments shine brighter than others, but I’ve been in love with crazy saxophones ever since I first heard Fun House by The Stooges, and I think this is right up that alley in terms of creativity, entertainment, and expression.
To me, the saxophone adds a layer of sophistication that’s justified as a backing instrument, and definitely elevates the music of the track. And while I wasn’t sure how I felt about the solo at first, since it’s so dissonant and cacophonous, I think the sax work is great, even if the accompanying bass and synth are a little wild. And the lick coming out of the solo is so good, it kind of justifies the momentary discomfort.
For the vocals, these are the kind of melodies that I like to find in songs. They’re definitely inspired by pop, but they take it in a different direction. It’s catchy and fun, but married with more artistic lyrics and dense multi-instrumentals, it makes for much more interesting listening than your average pop track.
All in all, I think this is a really interesting track that’s put together really well. There’s a lot going on here, but the saxophone and the vocals really hold this song together as a strong track.
