A FIERY COMEBACK: Rising Artist Subcon Drops 2nd Album “EXILE”

Pop punk is DEFINITELY NOT dead! And who would’ve guessed that blending it with other genres like trap and rap could produce such an awesome sound? With the newest album release of the artist Subcon from Nashville, “Exile” is set to start a wildfire in the music scene. Released on May 3, 2024, this 9-track project is a guaranteed uncontrollable force packed with intense music, fiery yet clear raps, and the energy that trap/pop-punk fans crave!

“Exile” is definitely a relatable album for those who struggle with survival and loneliness. This somehow reminds me of the type of music that I listened to when I was younger and ANGRY. This album speaks defiance. The vocal prowess and the melody that Subcon offered in this album are impressive. This featured a clear singing voice that delivered great stories through melodies and gritty rap lines, yet the vocal fry that was added to the tracks made the whole feature intense, strikingly emotional, and honest.

The album was introduced by the track “Phntm”, this track is sharp, honest, and poetic. Packed with Subcon’s signature sound, this track along with the song “(null)” presents a vibe that could pass as an anthem for defiance and survival. It is angry and it has an intensity that you can definitely feel through your bones as you listen. “The Raven” on the other hand features amazing heavy bass and poetic lyrics that mirror the thoughts of the artist.

“Bad Intentions” is a personal favorite. It is a standout along with the track “Do Your Worst”. These tracks are the very definition of songs that channel anger coursing through one’s system. They said Music is therapy; so what’s much better than jumping and screaming these lines while this heavy music is blasting through big speakers, right? Truly therapeutic. This is where the melody meets gritty and aggressive lines which makes these tracks catchy – this hits like the tracks sung by the legendary Linkin Park. It speaks the realities of life no matter how harsh it is with solid and clear vocals and great production from start to finish.

 

This album is intense. From start to finish, it kept its intensity through every track – be it with the sound or the way every track was performed it always circles back to its captivating blend of metal and trap influences. This only proves how great this album is production-wise. Subcon did an amazing job in producing these absolute bangers. The tracks “Et tu, Brute?”, “bleak. (ALSO A FAVE!!)”, “I’m Not Really Here” and “Rot!” were also featured in this release which made this whole album an overall package. Subcon is an overall package. He managed to showcase his skill and craftsmanship through this good music.

“Exile” is a bold release. Ultimately, it is a thrilling listen. If you enjoy music that hits hard and hits deep, this album is for you.
