Blossoming Brings The Rawness With His Newest EP, Rest Your Heart

I think we’ve already heard artists talk about mental health way too much to the point that it has become a cultural phenomenon. It has been used excessively, and a lot of artists have profited by creating songs about this culture. But in my opinion, blossoming‘s “Rest Your Heart” EP is as natural and raw as it gets.

Let’s start with “Hurt Nobody.” Some of the lyrics on the track feel forced. For example, the first line of the track, “I know I made mistakes; I admit it,” has a correct thought behind it, but the way it is placed and sung feels a bit off. The second line fits perfectly with the overall melody of the track.

You can hear the indie-rock influence in this track. When I initially listened to it, it felt like a track that The 1975 would make because of the drum pattern and the funky guitar riff. In my opinion, the track has a lot of potential. It could be maximized if it were mixed and mastered a bit more. Maybe make the guitar tone more twangy, adjust the highs and mids of the bass guitar, and probably change the drum tone to make it feel more natural.

“Rest Your Heart” is a melancholic track and the lead single of the EP. The track starts with this easy yet melancholic feel. I can imagine playing this tune while driving on a chill night. It makes you wonder how selfless blossoming is because of the song’s main theme.

The main hook of the song, “Please rest your heart for me, ’cause I know that you’ve been feeling down,” is blossoming’s way of saying that we need to slow down a little and just take a rest.

“Heartbeats” talks about internal issues that many of us are afraid to express. blossoming’s lyrics are relatable because many of us have experienced days when it’s hard to sleep, and we are anxious about what tomorrow will bring.

By the third track, I already figured out blossoming’s “artist identity,” which is his relatability that is simple and easy to understand. I’ve been reviewing songs for how many years now, and I’ve already heard hundreds, if not thousands of tropes in songs that just don’t hit home. For blossoming, it’s just natural. No sugarcoating, no tropes. Just straight-up feelings.

“Eventually” is by far my favorite song on the EP. The lyrics, down to the arrangement of the song, just hit the spot because of blossoming’s raw and natural ability to create relatable lyrics, plus the addition of the keyboard lick. The keyboard lick adds a gloomy feeling to the track, which is perfect for the overall theme of the song.

The “Rest Your Heart” EP is relatable, simple, and heartfelt. It has parts that I wish would be edited, mixed, and mastered a bit more, but then again, my opinions are subjective and mine alone.
