A trip down memory lane with Animal Souls’ newest track, The Kids

Hailing from Canada, Animal Souls‘ newest release “The Kids” is a coming-of-age track that will surely give you this nostalgic feel that we adults are eager to experience again.

Released on December 13th this year, the track starts with this drum pattern that is perfect for building up the steady drum beat of the whole song. From the get-go, you can already hear the new wave kinda retro influence of the band. Hearing this intro alone took me back to the days when I was eager to turn on my Dad’s stereo system and just jam to Jump by Van Halen and the likes.

What I love about the track is the poetic like feel of it. There are a lot of tropes associated with it but the overall theme talks about trust. Trusting that grey area in your life. I don’t want to sound philosophical but learning to just take everything in regardless of whether it’s good or bad.

The sudden silence in the latter part of the track following the drum pattern is a great build-up for the ’80s-style guitar solo. It’s fast, it’s raw and it’s perfect for the overall theme of the track.

Overall, The Kids is a trip down memory lane filled with smiles and uncertainty and I want to thank you, Animal Souls for this one-of-a-kind experience.
