Constable Hotel By fxrrvst

fxrrvst has put together a pretty interesting sound in this EP. It’s kind of sad lyrics, bordering emo, but the music is super upbeat and happy.

It’s like if folk meets indie meets emo. It makes me think and feel happy but also reminds me what sad is. But that’s really only the first two tracks. The penultimate and final tracks definitely have a stronger alternative rock vibe. The instrumentals throughout are very tight and the whole album is well produced. It’s tough to say enough because I’m coming up short for words here. And I’m unsure why. This is definitely a strong EP, and I’m really enjoying listening to it. It sounds great.

And maybe that’s the thing. Maybe I’m short for words because there isn’t much to be said that isn’t obvious as you listen. Maybe the goal with this EP was just to get some great tracks out there. Songs that sound great and make you feel great. Songs that you’re happy to hear play through your radio or to put on your Spotify morning playlists. Songs that are easily marketable.

That’s not a dig. I think that’s a fine target to set, and even more, I’m saying I think fxrrvst has hit it. These songs are apolitical without being uninteresting, which makes them great, versatile tracks.

What do I mean by that? I mean listening to this music doesn’t make me feel uncomfortable. Quite the opposite. It makes me feel safe. It’s comforting to listen to, even if the lyrics are a bit more artistic and expressive.

For me, this is a bit of a change of pace. I listen to a lot of music that’s overly artistic, or maybe better put, a bit naïve.

But I don’t think fxrrvst is. I think these are four feel good songs that fit almost any occasion, and that make you feel good, even though you might be feeling a bit sad. They’re all performed really great, and the mix of genre makes for a really cool blended sound. I’d recommend this EP to just about anyone, because I think you can’t help but like it.
