Honestly, this is an EP that I didn’t know I needed, and I’ll give it all to GRAVA for hitting me with all these great songs through her latest EP. “Bite the Hand that Bleeds” is a project released by this artist under Project Sound on October 18, 2024, that challenges the boundaries of genre, which perfectly balances grit and great sound. It is a five-track collection that is going to be on the list of your “On Repeat” playlist—for all the right reasons. I am honestly fangirling with all these blends of dark indie alternative pop and some grungy undertones—I kid you not, this project is essential for your listening.
GRAVA is bold in terms of her musicality—she is a force to be reckoned with in the music scene. This also reflects the power of her vocals, as she sings beautiful, strong notes of indie pop while at the same time infusing it with grunge and grit, which is her style. Bite the Hand that Bleeds is an intense EP, a combination of powerful lyrics and hard-hitting production that is intricately done but is yet intense. Get ready for GRAVA and the power that she brings in along with her band.
It opens with its title track, “Bite the Hand that Bleeds.” Right off the bat, you will be welcomed with the sultry yet powerful vocals of the artist, accompanied by the great quality of production in a piece. It will pull you into a dark and haunting scene of control and manipulation as depicted on the message of the track, which is interlaced through the pulsing beat and cinematic vibe depicted through the whole song. This song will honestly catch you off guard—it is honestly fire. It started off with its strong pop tones, and as the song progresses, GRAVA unleashes her power with that shift of genre to alternative rock through her strong vocals. It’s easy to say that this could be one of the top favorites for this collection.
“Something More” is more of a personal favorite here. It sounded so sick, and I definitely loved it. The dark aura that covers this song through its dirty beats and low vibrating synths will get you excited as the welcoming notes reach your ears. This song has so much potential, as I believe that this track is perfect—it has great tone, great sound, and a great story—and the VOCALS, fire! GRAVA does know how to play with fire through her vocals, and that is also exhibited through the track “Villain.” With her sultry take on the track and her undeniable femme fatale energy, this track may sound calmer than others, but you just know by the sound of it that it is also deadly.
The thrill continues with “Magic Trick.” This track has a nice buildup when it comes to instrumentation and production; it has a catchy sound and rhythm. But don’t get fooled; this upbeat track and catchy sound is hiding away a much darker theme as it details a horrible trick to play on a person that they envy. I’d also like to highlight the clever lyricism on this track—the use of counts while incorporating rhymes and events just works perfectly. I honestly want to scream—it’s just too good. Haha!
The EP ends strong with the track “Holy Fang,” which brings in a dark and mysterious vibe that somehow depicts witching hours. GRAVA’s vocal is definitely a highlight here, as she perfectly transcended from girly Barbie-like sweet vocals to a dark, grungy, strong full voice as the great bass dropped. This is a rather theatrical ending—a rightful one for a great EP!
Verdict? The EP Bite the Hand that Bleeds is an easy full mark! 10/10. It is hard to choose favorites from all the tracks featured in this collection as it offers different kinds of sounds and vibes on the table. This EP has the potential to reach higher grounds; the precision of each line delivery for each track is just so satisfying; the intensity of emotions evoked on this performance is unforgettable; and the production done on this release is definitely of high quality. This EP is powerful, bold, and a great showcase of artistic vision from GRAVA and her character as a musician. Honestly, this EP alone could beat some of the mainstream tracks that are high on the trends right now. Seriously, just don’t sleep on this. This EP deserves your full attention! I can’t wait to see this artist top the charts in the future. So, follow GRAVA now and be sure to check out and stream her EP “Bite the Hand that Bleeds”! You are in for a great experience!
