Rebel Hearts By Clare Easdown

Man. Clare Easdown does not care what you think about her. And you’ve got to respect that.  Rebel Hearts is a catchy, pop-punk tune that is actually really well done.

Me saying that is not meant as a slight to Clare. It’s not that I expect anything poorly done from her or any artist prejudicially. What I mean is that a lot of pop punk and punk, especially rebellious, DIY inspired acts, are usually done in an amateurish way (no offense to that), and a lot of the ethic and inspiration is drawn from not hiding the fact that it is.

But this song is not only produced really, really well, I also feel that it is musically really well put together. I’m actually not particularly qualified to evaluate the musicality of any song. I’m much more of a consumer and a fan than a legitimate music or art critic. But this song just sounds like it’s error free, and smartly put together. Melodically, this track is super strong. It’s clean, smooth, and quite pleasant to listen to.

And like I said, a lot of music in this genre is not (and I don’t have a problem with that). I guess it makes sense that Clare studied classical music at a high level when she was younger. It’s awesome that Clare has taken her talents and training, and is making music like this. This song is super clean, melodic, and I would even say uplifting.

For music is the genre, I normally would only recommend it to those who really enjoy the rebellious, punk ethic. But I honestly think that any fan of music should give this track a listen. It’s really tight, and I think deserves the highest commendation, and might even give you some new perspective if you haven’t been exposed to punk, or have avoided the genre in the past.
