Images of New Violence By Superswell

Superswell. Yes. Yes dude! I love music like this. It’s interesting, it’s intense. It hits hard.  This is the sound you want to hear coming out of New York. Or really any city above the Mason Dixon line.

I might get some flack for this from some die-hards, but this to me hits like Linkin Park did back in the 90s. It’s just got the urban sound. It reminds me of Baltimore, DC, Philadelphia.

It just amps you up. I honestly haven’t heard a good grunge album like this in a long time. A lot of band’s have tried to capture this ethic, but I think this is just musically there, contrary to a lot of what I’ve seen in the scene.

I Don’t Won’t The World is a prime example. This track has literally everything. Heavy, distorted guitars. Screaming vocals. A melodic chorus. Captivating verses. But Superswell is also showing their versatility. Be There Soon is just as composed, but has a much softer vibe. But still, it has all the makings of a great grunge banger.

I’ve gotta say too, that looking into their discography, I think this sound is a massive step forward for the band. Their early work is put together well, and are good songs, but these new ones just have a monstrous sound that reminds me of all the great grunge bands of the 90s/00s (Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, etc).

I know those are big shoes to fill, especially from a relatively new band coming out of Brooklyn. But I really mean it. These tracks sound absolutely amazing, and for a fan of the genre, it’s really great to hear a group that sticks to the ethos and is bringing some new style and ideas to the table.

If you’re stuck on a long metro ride on the evening commute, I’d give these guys a listen. I’m really hoping they’re finding some good gigs at some good clubs up and down the East Coast of the US. They got a sound a lot of bands are trying to go for, but with these new tracks, are just doing it head and shoulders above what’s standard in the underground.

Man, I miss music like this. Check out their music and follow them on their socials!
