Man in a Quarry: ‘Gore Confetti’ an EP by I Am Your Wife!

Buckle up. Gore Confetti really is seven tracks filled to the brim with the old spirit of rock ‘n roll.

I’d like to start with the last track, Man in a Quarry. This one is my favorite. It’s groovy. To me, it’s head and shoulders above the rest of the EP. Why call that out? Because for anyone who gets a link to this, I’d almost recommend listening to 07 first. It highlights what I think this EP is all about: The guitars.

Now, I might get some stick for this, because the album is set in a universe with monsters and all that stuff. Look. These are serious musicians that know what they are doing. This album is hyper harmonic. And the guitars on every track have an interplay that is insanely interesting.

But from the start, it’s tough to lock in on this concept. With track 01, it seems like the vocals, story-telling, and setting are the focus of this work. However, once I got to the last track, my perception changed. Everything else seemed to take a step back, and the guitars a step-forward. I really liked it. So much so, I decided to listen to the entire EP again.

What I discovered is that the tracks were setting the stage for the guitars, not the other way around.

Re-listening to the album and focusing on the guitar bits, it was a completely different experience. They carry and deliver the songs differently, than if you focus on the lyrics. The tensions and emotions are completely different. It makes more sense.

And what the major, major thing I like about this is, is that this really makes this a sub-30 min rocker, beginning to end. It’s like an opera. It’s cohesive.

The experience isn’t one track. It’s the full EP. And to me, this is a guitar album. Like Galaxie 500’s Today. So much emotion is delivered through the guitars. It’s just not dream-pop. It’s got a more blues-house, neon light identity, but no less artistry.

So if you like guitars with a conception, and music with the stick-it-to the man spirit of OG rock ‘n roll, I would definitely recommend this EP. Give it a listen beginning to end, and try to tell me that last track doesn’t hit as hard as the whatever seminal guitar track you can think of.
