Gritty, Raw Sound with Exceptional Lyricism: GoGo by BOYFRN

This track is super interesting. So I took a bit of a dive into BOYFRN’s Spotify to see what he’s about. What I discovered is that BOYFRN definitely has a vibe. What I mean is, BOYFRN has a personality, is an artist, and does some good work.

I am a fan. This track immediately set off the I’m-going-to-like-this-artist alarm bells. It’s the music. I think a lot of others would give BOYFRN flack for production quality, but personally, I really like this kind of production. It feels like garage rock, which makes the song feel authentic and independently driven, which I am always a fan of. And I think it works for BOYFRN.

I will say up front, this is a solid track, but I wouldn’t call it BOYFRN’s best. There is a lot more and I personally like “Doors to Kick”. What it has that GoGo doesn’t, is a smooth, catchy chorus. GoGo to me is only held back by the chorus. It kind of sticks out as being either raw, unfinished or unaddressed. Having said that, I think the verses to this song are excellent. BOYFRN has a flow, and his lyrics are out of this world. “It’s up to the heavens, make them smile on us, let the light shine on us, don’t let it die on us”. I’m serious. Lyrically, this track is insane, even the chorus.

So here’s the review. I think BOYFRN is a poetic genius, and is making some super interesting songs. I think this track, GoGo, suffers a bit from the hook, which is unfortunate, because the verses are so insanely good. I like the music a lot, and the lo-fi production, but most people (including me) would probably prefer it cleaned up.

I followed BOYFRN. You should too. I think he’s going to be one to watch grow.
