Life’s Too Short To Listen To Mediocre Rock Music, So Here’s “Mind Party,” An Awesome Drop From Myopia.

In this era, there’s this critical comment that says “rock bands” are old, out of style, and just plain noisy. More often than not, this genre has been treated as an outcast in the music scene and pegged as repetitive and noisy. Boy, how wrong those comments were.

Myopia, the rising British rock duo, is here to prove you all wrong. As their music grows and evolves through the years, Oliie Edgington and Elliot Hawkins drop their most anticipated 2nd album entitled “Mind Party,” a collection of 14 songs that is all about angst, grit, and all too many themes that involve the emotions of a human being. This album is packed—not only with heavy themes, messages, and experiences but also with honest-to-greatness sounds.

It opens with the track “The World Is So Loud,” a track that is packed with angst and anguish from the get-go. It introduces the whole album through its striking piano notes, which add drama and build up the tension for the whole track. This track personally intrigued me—it’s crazy how this song is new to my ears yet it’s all familiar—the emotions, the lines, and the messages that it delivered. This track is a hook that made me listen for more.

Mad Song” is honestly one of my favorites. It is catchy and it’s that good to make my head bop along with its grit and sound. Honestly, what made me love this song is how this speaks so much of my truth at this point of my life—it’s the rage and struggle to deal with life as a young adult. Speaking of rage and struggle, “Stardust” should also be added to this as it talks about bad parenting and how it affects a child. Kind of a home run, honestly. While on “Angel System,” it’s kind of a break from all the bangs and angst as the band goes with a slow ballad as its intro. It is a song that depicts trying to get a hold of your life or situation, a track that screams “chill out, good things will happen.“.

Another noteworthy element of this release is the way every lyric was written—it’s all good. These tracks will make you ponder, and hold a thought while you listen to each track like in the case of “Hibiscus.” You know how a lot of things happen in this generation and we can’t control any of those? Well, that is the kind of theme and angst that this song is pounding to the listeners through Elliot’s great drumming. Since we’re speaking about drums and how excellently done it is in this album, “Luck” comes in with its fiery intro. Needless to say, this is absolutely one of the top tracks as well. It is THAT track that can make the whole moshpit go crazy.

Personally, I think “Gamophobia” is an experimental sound that turned out to be great. Is it proper to say that it’s chaotic—but all in good ways? It’s a heavy metal track with undertones of modern synths and sound, which, weirdly enough, sounds good. Along with this release are power tracks like “The Call of the Void,” “What Are We,” “My Human,” and “This Is Really Nice.” “At the Mercy of the Universe,” on the other hand, is a track that has this kind of resignation toward things as things go out of control. It is one of those tracks with a solid buildup—starts chill but always ends up in a powerful and satisfying way.

Mind Party” is the title track for this album; this features some clear vocals from Oliie. It is a track where it feels like they’ve laid their heart and soul bare for the listeners to see. It is raw and packed with emotions—it might sound quiet, but it definitely felt like a scream as the angst was being delivered. Finally, as the continuation of the track, it all ends with “movements.”. I personally would call this a proper definition of slow-burn. It starts slow and quiet, and as the song progresses, it sets everything on its track ablaze. The transition for this track caused goosebumps—it was intense. It sounded divine. You can feel every emotion that is being poured out on each line being thrown—the angst, the anger, the despair—it is all there. This song is fire—it started with a small spark, it gave you warmth, and as it warmed up, it turned into wildfire.

Ultimately, “Mind Party” by Myopia is packed with so much potential. It is everything that you want in an album. The lyrics are great; the vocals are top-notch; instrumentation-wise, it’s all superb. This is a high-quality production, and the way this band showcased a variety of genres in one release is crazy. It is an easy listen as the band perfectly packaged their tracks in a more balanced way. This album literally blew me away.

Verdict? 9/10. I saved it to my personal favorites on Spotify. It’s everything that I love in an album, and I’m sure enough you will love this too! The top tracks are definitely “Mind Party” and “Movements.” I will never get tired of saying that the production for this album is really high quality and highlights the skill and passion of this band for their music and craft! The world deserves to hear more from them!
