Get fired up with Blueprint Tokyo‘s latest EP release, called “Blue.” Dropped on the scene this August 5th, 2024, this five-track collection is something personal and intimate from this Oklahoma City-based duo. This is a courageous dive into topics of growth, technology, and the mundane things that happen in life, along with the complexities that it carries, making this EP a relatable one.
Opening up for this EP is the track “Odysseus.” It is loaded with some intense, hard-hitting drums and guitar plays that accentuate its vulnerability. It is a catchy track that is overflowing with emotions, as emphasized by the raw vocal performance of the vocalist. You will feel the angst and the grit as they repeatedly chanted the lines take me apart, making this a somehow familiar cry of someone laying themselves bare for the person that they want.
If there is one thing constant in this EP, it is the undeniable great instrumentation from Blueprint Tokyo. Their ability to evoke emotions through the way they perform is something to look forward to as they go forward in their career in the industry. Specifically, this can be observed through the tracks “Mission Control” and “Close Door Drama.” The latter is a personal song about the story of a boy and his life. It carries the message of how darkness engulfs you as you close your doors to the outside world. This message is specifically punctuated by each hard-hitting beat of the drums. “We all want to be loved,” a message repeatedly sang in this track, which is true.
Finally, my personal favorites on this EP are the tracks “Transfer” and “Only Hearts.” It is mainly because of the vibe that it carries. I find these songs to sound very nostalgic, as they feature the same elements as the tracks that I usually listen to from international bands. “Transfer” guarantees head bops because of the energy that it carries, while “Only Hearts” carries this awesome slow-rock vibe that showcases the performer’s vulnerability as he delivers each line to announce his devotion towards someone.
Blueprint Tokyo has successfully captured the essence of their inspiration from their favorite post-punk, classic rock, and emo bands. Incorporating their unique style into this bunch, their music has reached a quality worthy of being heard by the world. Blue is an EP that is catchy, strong, and definitely carries so much potential. From the way each track was carefully written to the way it was produced and performed, you will know how dedicated these artists were to their crafts due to the attention that they have given to these tracks.
