It’s been weeks since Pink Trash Project’s comeback show, but we’re still hungover from the event. As a way to immortalize this one-of-a-kind show, here is the last part of Pink Trash Project’s special feature here in anti pop punk pop punk club.
In the middle of the busy street that is Xavierville Avenue, a party was SECRETLY being held at Takeover Lounge, Pop Up, Katipunan, Quezon City. Chaotic in her pink ensemble, Pink of Pink Trash Project warmly welcomes everyone—the media partner representatives, guests, and band members included in the line-up. In line with Pink Trash Project’s branding, several pink decorations were put around the venue: pink fairy lights graced the mic stand, and pink balloons were scattered everywhere.
While everyone was busy settling in their tables and socializing, the show started at around eight in the evening. The first band to entertain the guests was CH4OS. Their band covered the songs Martyr, About You, and Huling Sayaw. They also performed their band’s original song, which was still unreleased and untitled.
Next up in the line-up is Owl’s Night. The 5-piece alternative rock band sang and performed four of their original songs entitled Mulat, Tahanan, Ikaw, and Hakbang. Their electrifying performance brought the crowds to their feet and loud cheers will be heard alongside their performance.
Brisom, one of the anticipated artists that night, performed one song cover, End of Beginning, and four of their original hits which are Kelan, Out of Time, Balewala, and Jeepney. As Brisom performed in their set, people were just in awe and singing along with them.
The fourth band to grace the Takeover Lounge stage is Moongrey. Their song line-up includes two songs they covered which were Magasin and Ere, and two originals, Blankong Pahina, which is available for streaming on Spotify, and an untitled, unreleased one.
Then comes the crowd favorite: Mint Magic. Their band enticed the audience with a setlist of their original songs entitled Love You Less and Dating Ikaw, which will soon be released on streaming platforms, and Somebody’s Better and Sinulit: two of their pre-existing songs. You’ll see everyone dancing and clapping on their set, along with occasional shouting here and there.
The main event that everyone was waiting for then arrived. It was time for Pink Trash Project’s set. Everyone stopped and stared at the show’s main course ― all eyes on our princess in pink, Pink herself, along with Warren, JM, Gatchi, and Deved, the band then prepared for one of the most memorable comebacks in their career. You can feel the adrenaline rush filling them as every second passes. Before their performance started, the new Pink Trash Project intro was unveiled, which was immediately followed by their first song Exit. Pink didn’t waste any chances and already showed everyone the new and improved PTP: enticing, electrifying, raw, and straightforward. After their first song, Pink welcomed everyone again then proceeded with their next song FU. As a first-time attendee of Pink Trash Project’s gig, my eyes were glued on them the whole time. Pink’s vocals, dancing, and stage presence are addicting. Only two songs in, and it already felt like I ascended heaven. Pink then gave her spiel, then told the audience that as PTP entered a new era, she is giving us a new, unreleased song. She labeled this song as a love song or a confession song, and this song is entitled U. As she sang this song, you can feel her emotions overflowing. After this heartfelt performance comes the feminist anthem, Babae. Catt Palmaria of the band The Bandicatt also joined Pink in this song. Imagine two powerful vocalists sharing the same stage, singing about women, it was such a delightful sight to see. Following this is song is Paano Ba, a song dedicated to people who show you gestures of concern, giving you mixed signals, but will forbid you to fall in love with them in the end.
After five songs, Pink recited her spiel and thanked everyone: their prod partner: GigLab PH, PTP’s community: Pinkies PH, the PTP crew, the bands who performed alongside them, the guests, the media partners ― in which we, anti pop punk pop punk club were included in, and Offshore music’s representative. After the spiel, Pink then introduced the next song, the improved and revamped version of Ako’y Nag-alangan. Before performing the song live, they revealed the “secret” they prepared for this show: which was the official music video of this very song. She proudly introduced the people behind this video, the same people who are behind the MMFF film Unspoken: Jewel, Dominic, and Bert. This is the video’s official premiere even for the crew and Pink herself. After the video’s premiere, the band proceeded to play the song live. Pink Trash Project concluded their set with the song Narcissism.
The last act and the second headliner for this show is none other than This Band. Fresh from their US Tour, they were also anticipated by most of the attendees that night. They opened their set with Di Na Babalik, followed by Kilometro, No Label, and Ligaya. After Ligaya, they called Pink on stage to join them where Andee and Pink sang a duet of If I Ain’t Got You. They then proceeded to their last two songs Hindi Na Nga and Kahit Ayaw Mo Na.
The night then ended after This Band’s set. People then started socializing, taking pictures with the artists, and exchanging socials and contacts. Although tired, you can see in everyone’s faces that they’ve enjoyed the show nonetheless.
Let’s proceed in this article’s interview portion starting with two of the guest bands that night, Owl’s Night and Mint Magic!
Q: How was the Welcome to Pink Chaos experience as a guest band?
MM: The production was really impressive! Kudos to the Pink Trash Team, we felt really welcome. Super buhay ng crowd napaka-participative.
ON: It’s such an honor to be part of this event. We’re really happy with the warm support from this community, even though it’s our first time performing at a PINKies prod team event. We had a blast!
Q: Any memorable moments from that night?
MM: Pinakamemorable samin is [when] the Pinkies sang to our songs at the top of their lungs. Napaka-supportive kaya gusting-gusto namin laging nagpi-perform kasama si Pink and the gang.
ON: We had a great time with the other guest artists. They were really talented, and it was so much fun. We also met a lot of new people who showed us strong support.
Q: Any message to Pink Trash Project and to the PINKies Production team?
MM: Sana hindi kayo magsawa supporting the OPM scene. Mahirap ang work, puyat pagod at stress pero we really appreciate you guys. Keep it up! Sana lumaki nang lumaki at maging major production house team ang Pinkies Prod team!
ON: Hopefully, this production team grows even bigger, and help more indie artists showcase their craft. We’re excited to be part of your event again. More power and solid gigs to this prod team! We love you guys!
Q: Anything to watch out for in the future from your band?
MM: Mint Magic Single Launch, May 31st, Friday, Saguijo Makati.
ON: We’re working on a new single, but we can’t spill the beans on the title yet, haha! Watch out for our teasers on Owl’s Night social media accounts.
We also interviewed Ate Pink, the PTP band, and the PTP crew!
Q: How would you describe the feeling of coming back after months of taking a break?
Pink: Uhmm, it was exciting, overwhelming – there was so much pressure but I think ang pinaka-talaga is PAGOD *laughs* grabe! When we were rehearsing for this, nagawa kong kantahin ng dire-diretso yung 7 songs na yon pero syempre walang dancing and jumping ‘yon but on the day itself – Gosh! First song pa lang, yung stamina ko was screaming for help, hahaha! It was 2 months of no singing while rocking so I guess my body still needs to adjust ulit but yeah, thinking that I came back after resting is just exciting for me – alam mo yun, manifesting better things to happen for us talaga.
Q: Are you satisfied with the outcome of the event?
Pink: Yes na yes naman! It was definitely one for the books. Hindi ko alam kung dahil ba ang utak ko is in “work mode”, pero kasi in PTP prod, our goal talaga is to always create a memorable experience for both the artists and the guests, and seeing naman how the bands and guests both enjoyed the night – it was definitely a win for me.
Q: What are your favorite moments from that night?
Pink: Damn, ang dami eh. Pero highlight ko talaga noon is that I get to sing with This Band. I mean, I got to sing with them na in April but this was impromptu, hindi ako nasabihan – and it was an important day for me kaya I think that moment was extra special. Another thing siguro is seeing people wearing my merch, I’m like damn, legit na ‘to, may merch na ako, and siguro isa pa is I get to sing my confession song live and I think people liked the new song! This new song is a bit different from what we usually sound kaya special siya, perfect song to open the new era talaga ― “U” yiieee, kinilig ka rin ba don, Mari? Hahahaha (Mari: Yes po ate, super!)
Q: Any message to the people that went, and to those who planned on going but can’t?
Pink: Honestly, I really encourage people to come to PTP highlight shows (launch, bday, etc.) kasi it’s a different kind of experience versus to when I get to invited to shows lang, pero I know a lot of you guys have reached out to me, apologizing for not being able to come but don’t worry, you’re gonna see us more often in shows na unlike before but I really do hope you guys could come on my highlight shows so you can experience the Pink Chaos in a different level.
Q: From here on out, what should people look forward to when it comes to Pink Trash Project?
Pink: You’d see us more often in shows in even bigger venues, you’d expect different song line-ups every time you see us, and of course, more new songs coming in!
Q: Anyone you wanted to thank and acknowledge?
Pink: I want to thank first of all si Ate Carrie of GigLab, who has made this show possible, and also for supporting Pink Trash Project since her artist launch. Love ko yan si Ate! And ito talaga, thanks to my crew for doing this with me, to the crew who helped me plan this: Tyrell Cruz who wasn’t able to come due to work, we have Catt Palmaria, Dominic Talavera, Joed Llarena, Criscia Ballano, Anj Ignacio, Rei Dimalanta. To our on-ground crew who helped on event day: Peter Enopio, Noj Laurel, Trixie, Jabbin, Bert, Direk Julz, and Darren. Also thank you kay Tyrell, Doms, Julz, and Bert for surprising us with a very beautiful music video. Thank you sa media partners na pumunta: anti pop punk pop punk club, Agimat, Musestone Projects, and DX Matilla siyempre, thank you din sa mga media partners na hindi nakapunta. Thank you din sa’yo for doing write-ups for this show and the song, this means so much to indie musicians like me. You’re amazing, Mari! Super thank you din sa mga band friends na tumugtog, CH4OS, Owl’s Night, Moongrey, BRISOM, Mint Magic, and This Band. Pero I really wanna give this talaga kay Euwie, kasi if it wasn’t for him, this show would have turned out very differently. Imagine the night without This Band, Owl’s Night, and Moongrey diba? I mean kaya naman but the night was so fun, chill, and light-hearted dahil puro friends kaya it felt like it was the perfect night for a comeback – kaya thank you talaga.
Q: Can you spoil us (again!) with gig information: when and where people can get to experience THE Pink Trash Project experience in the near future, in case they weren’t able to come last May 10?
Pink: Waaaaaaaaa May 29, Unknown13 Pub’s anniversary! And June 8! I’ll be performing at Offshore Music live night at Rabbit Hole. Angas ng line up don kaya I hope you guys can look forward to it.
Q: Invite them to the Pink Trash Can community!
Pink: Hi everyone, I’m your trash who likes pink, my name is Pink Trash Project. If you like music that gives you different experiences: rock, funk, electronic, dance, happy, sad whatever – you might want to listen to my music and be part of the Pink Trash Can community – we have a small group on Facebook where we send updates, memes, and share music in general, not just mine but also from everyone in it. The Pink Trash Project experience is one of a kind. I’ve been to many gigs before, but this one is a unique experience. From their program flow to the strict time management, PINKies Prod surely outdid themselves with this show. My five-hour drive from Nueva Ecija to Quezon City was all worth it. The show ended at almost one in the morning, but I can still feel the adrenaline rush in me. It is not just my body that’s participating in the show, but also my soul. Experiencing the PTP experience is a must in your lifetime, even if only for once.
