Released last April 25, 2024, wegothistory blessed us with From You to Yourself, a Pinoy city pop song that intimately tells us that when we are already burned out, it is okay to pause to check for ourselves’ well-being.
A little obvious, from the title itself, the song’s lyricism format is written from a first-person’s point of view, seemingly talking to someone. The persona in the song is asking the listeners if they are okay, making it look like our younger selves are talking to us, because the lyrics were written as if they can see through our minds, hearts, thoughts, and feelings. The opening lines, “I tried to take a look inside your heart, all I see is a candlelight fading away” is already a heavy blow to the listeners who are trying their best but their hopes for a better life are getting dimmer and dimmer, the candlelight being a metaphor in the song for this hollow feeling.
The next lines are written as if our younger selves are comforting us, reassuring us that all will be fine in time, also bravely reminding us that we need to toughen up, but are allowed to be vulnerable at times because if our younger selves only has the ability to heal us, they will.
wegothistory crafted this song beautifully, from its lyrics down to its melody. He also released it at a perfect time because more and more people are getting focused and pumped up on their jobs and affairs in personal lives that they forget to take care of theirselves.
