Right off the bat, you get hit with an array of sounds like it’s all building up to something powerful and ear-catching… and it’s not exactly wrong to assume such. “Self-Destruction” immediately gives off that gothic energy around the genre of alternative rock. If you’re a veteran or simply enjoy music from that scene, this would make you wonder: ‘where have I heard this before?’
Except, Augmented Hearts takes that familiarity and makes their own spin. From the title alone, there’s already an initial guess as to what this song is about; but it’s more than just the feeling and the act of self-destruction alone. It’s empowering, in a way, with how the words soulfully deliver the act of walking away from it.
This single consists of a unique arrangement, defining hard rock completely. It all sounds full and whole, jam-packed with different components gracefully combined together. The dynamics are great, from the slightly mellow interludes to the strong entrance of the chorus that’s bound to stick in mind for a while:
All in all, it’s a great song to be addicted to, especially when what it means resonates with you and you want nothing more than to bask in the fullness of sound, just for a while.
